Adding a dish to your menu

Create a new menu item with price, ingredients, and images using the three-step editor.

Open Menu Management

From the sidebar, open Menu Management. The header reads "Menu Management" with the subtitle "Manage your menu items and categories". Pick a category from the list on the left, then click the blue "Add Item" button on the right.

Step 1 โ€” Basic Info

  1. 01Type the dish name in the "Title" field (subtitle: "Enter the name of your menu item").
  2. 02Add a short description in the "Description" field.
  3. 03Enter the "Price" โ€” numbers only, the editor will reject text with "Price should be a number".
  4. 04Confirm the "Category" shown at the top, or use "Move this item to another category" to reassign it.

Step 2 โ€” Ingredients & Extras

  1. 01List ingredients so allergens and customer questions are easy to answer later.
  2. 02Add the weight and unit (for example 220 g or 33 cl).
  3. 03Enter calories if you publish them on the customer menu.

Step 3 โ€” Images

  • Tap "Add Image" to upload one or more photos โ€” the subtitle reads "Update images for your menu item".
  • Use bright, top-down shots on a clean surface. Customers see this image on the QR menu.
  • Square crops (1:1) render most consistently across phones and tablets.

Save and verify

Press the gradient "Next" button on each step, then save on the final screen. The new dish appears immediately under "$selectedCategory Items" in the menu list. Use "Mark In Stock" / "Out of Stock" on the item card to toggle availability without deleting it.

Organizing menu categories

Create, rename, and reorder the categories customers see on your QR menu.

Where categories live

Categories appear as the left-hand list inside Menu Management. When none is selected the panel reads "Select a Category" with the hint "Choose a category to view items". Selecting one switches the right panel to "$Category Items".

Add or rename a category

  1. 01Open the category options menu and choose "Edit Category".
  2. 02Type into the "Category Name" field. Leaving it blank shows the toast "Category name required".
  3. 03Save โ€” a green toast "Category updated" confirms the change.

Move items between categories

Long-press or select items, then use "Move to category" or "Add to category" from the bulk-action bar. A confirmation toast "Item moved" appears once the move completes.

Delete safely

  • Deleting a category opens "Confirm Category Deletion" โ€” read the dialog before agreeing.
  • Move dishes out first so you never lose a popular item by accident.
  • Empty categories are hidden from customers automatically.

Tagging allergens on dishes

Create allergen groups like Nuts or Gluten and assign every dish that contains them.

Open the allergen manager

From the menu toolbox open the allergens screen. The page subtitle reads "Tag menu items with allergens for customer safety". The intro panel explains: "Create allergen categories (e.g. Salmon, Nuts, Gluten) and assign menu items that contain each one."

Create an allergen

  1. 01Click "Add allergen" at the top right.
  2. 02Name it clearly โ€” Nuts, Gluten, Dairy, Shellfish, Salmon โ€” one ingredient per entry.
  3. 03Save. The count next to "Allergens" updates with the new total.

Assign dishes

Open an allergen and tick every dish that contains it. A single dish can carry multiple tags. The customer-facing menu uses these tags to filter dishes and warn diners.

Keep it accurate

  • Review tags every time a recipe changes โ€” even a stock swap can introduce gluten or dairy.
  • If you see "No allergens defined yet", start with the eight most common: Gluten, Dairy, Eggs, Nuts, Peanuts, Soy, Shellfish, Fish.
  • Delete with care: the "Delete allergen" dialog removes the tag from every dish it was attached to.

Running a promotion

Set up a percentage, fixed-amount, BOGO, bundle, or combo promo from the Promos screen.

Open Promos

Use the "Promos" entry in the sidebar. The header card shows the title "Promos" with a blue-to-purple "New promo" button on the right โ€” the same gradient used on "Next" buttons in the menu editor.

Pick a promo type

  1. 01Click "New promo" to open the create dialog titled "New promo".
  2. 02Choose a "Promo type" โ€” Percentage off, Fixed amount off, Buy X get Y, Bundle deal, or Combo deal.
  3. 03Enter the discount value and the dishes or categories the promo applies to.

Set the dates

Pick a start date and end date. Saving with an end date earlier than the start shows the red toast "End date must be after start date". Promos with a future start show the "Scheduled" status pill; live ones show "Active".

Save and confirm

Press "Create promo" to finish โ€” the green toast "Promo created" confirms it. Editing an existing promo shows "Edit promo" and "Save changes" instead, with the toast "Promo updated".

Manage running promos

  • The list shows four statuses: "Active", "Scheduled", "Expired", and "Disabled".
  • Use Disabled to pause a promo without losing its configuration โ€” handy for weekly specials.
  • Deleting a promo asks for confirmation; the red "Delete" button is on the right of the dialog.
